Frequently Asked Questions
🔄 Candle duration and maintenance
How often should the filter candle be changed?
The Stefani candle should be replaced every 500 liters filtered or every 6 months , whichever comes first. If it is used frequently or the water contains impurities, it may need to be changed sooner.
Why should the first 12 liters be discarded after installing a new spark plug?
These help activate the filter material and remove clay residue , and also reduce the initial characteristic taste.
How often should I clean my filter?
We recommend a surface cleaning every 15 to 20 days , depending on usage and water quality, to maintain a constant flow and prolong the candle's lifespan.
How to properly clean a candle?
Clean it with a soft brush or sponge under running water ; do not use soap or chemicals. If the flow does not improve, the candle needs to be replaced .
🔬 Triple filtration system
How do Stefani filters work?
By gravity, the water flows from the upper stage to the lower stage, passing through the filter candle. Stefani filter candles incorporate three highly effective natural stages:
Microporous clay – ( 0.5-5 microns) Retains sediments, microplastics, particles, bacteria and parasites thanks to its microporous structure.
Activated carbon – Adsorbs chemical contaminants such as chlorine, pesticides, volatile organic compounds and reduces heavy metals such as lead and mercury, in addition to improving the taste and smell of water.
Colloidal silver – It is a powerful bactericide and natural disinfectant, capable of eliminating or inhibiting the growth of bacteria, viruses and fungi, achieving microorganism removal rates of over 99.99%.
These joint stages guarantee clean, safe and tasty water
🌡️ Natural effects and aesthetics
Why does my filter turn white over time?
"Efflorescence" appears—mineral crystals that emerge on the ceramic surface. This is completely normal, harmless, and demonstrates that the water breathes and cools naturally.
Should I be worried about a clay taste when using a new filter?
No, it's part of its natural curing process. If you want to speed this process up:
-
Leave it submerged in water for 2 days, then air dry.
-
Use home remedies like sweet anise or fresh mint in the reservoir.
🌊 Compatible water types
Can tap water be filtered?
Yes, that is its primary use. Tap water is technically safe in most countries around us. With point-of-use filtration, we ensure top-quality water by removing debris and impurities from the distribution system, drastically reducing the presence of chlorine and other chemicals used in the purification process, and guaranteeing premium quality water.
Can rainwater and well water be filtered?
Yes, filtering rainwater with a Stefani filter (clay, activated carbon and colloidal silver) significantly improves its quality and can make it suitable for human consumption in most contexts, but it does not guarantee absolute safety in all cases.
However, no domestic method can guarantee the complete removal of all contaminants, especially in urban or industrial areas where rainwater may contain persistent chemical contaminants or heavy metals in high concentrations.
To ensure absolute potability, some sources recommend supplementing filtration with additional disinfection, such as boiling or chlorine treatment, especially if there is a suspicion of very high viral or chemical contamination.
A Stefani filter is one of the best home options for treating rainwater , removing the vast majority of microorganisms and many chemical contaminants. However, it cannot guarantee that the water will be potable in all cases. In areas with high levels of air pollution or where health is particularly vulnerable (babies, the elderly, immunocompromised individuals), caution is advised, and if possible, the filtered water should be tested or further treated.
Can seawater be filtered?
Yes, but it doesn't remove salt . It reduces impurities and eliminates microplastics, but the water remains salty and is not suitable as a source of hydration. You can drink it, use it as an isotonic drink, or use it for cooking and seasoning.
We recommend using a dedicated filter, even if you do it often, and using a fountain or dispenser exclusively for that purpose.
What if it's river or mountain water?
Yes, it is also suitable: it eliminates bacteria (99.99% of them) and improves water quality. However, it does not guarantee the complete removal of heavy metals or agrochemicals, nor does it guarantee total water purity. If there is any risk, we recommend having the water tested .
⚠️ Correct use and precautions
Can I filter hot water, juices, or milk?
No. It should only be used with cold or lukewarm water , as other liquids may damage the candle.
Is it safe for pregnant women, children, or the elderly?
100%, by offering filtered water without added chemicals, it is suitable for everyone.
How do I know if I need to change the candle?
-
Visible cracks appear.
-
The flow of filtered water does not improve after cleaning .
Is the plastic container safe?
Yes, it is made of food-grade plastic, BPA-free , safe for everyday use.
💡 Ecological and health benefits
Why choose a ceramic filter with activated carbon and colloidal silver?
-
Completely natural
-
It does not need electricity.
-
Preserves essential minerals
-
It effectively filters bacteria, sediment, chlorine, and tastes.
-
Simple and inexpensive to maintain
Is it a better alternative to bottled water or reverse osmosis?
We say yes. Because home filtration replenishes minerals, avoids plastic waste, and reduces water waste. Reverse osmosis demineralizes water and generates waste, while bottled water has a significant environmental footprint and may contain microplastics.
✅ Quick summary
